Celebrating 9 years of community in WA
A milestone worth celebrating
This month, we celebrate nine wonderful years of Cana Communities in Fremantle — a journey of welcome, hope and belonging that continues to grow stronger every day. From the beginning, the vision was simple yet powerful: to create a place where everyone feels welcome, accepted and valued. Whether through a warm meal, a shared laugh, or a quiet conversation, the spirit of dignity, hope and belonging has been at the centre of everything we do.
Growing in strength and depth
Over the years, this community has grown in both strength and depth. Weekly meals at the Food Truck in Freo Oval, monthly community dinners, birthday celebrations, games afternoons and art therapy sessions have all become part of the rhythm of life in WA. The games gatherings, especially, have created space for trust, openness and the simple dignity of being oneself. The opening of Rachel’s Joy, a new residential home in beautiful Palmyra, has been a milestone — offering women a safe, stable and supportive environment for a fresh start. It is a place where courage, care and support open pathways to new beginnings.
Community at the heart
This past year, the re-establishment of our hub in Beaconsfield has brought new energy and opportunities. From developing skills in hospitality at the Food Truck, to contributing to the household at Rachel’s Joy, women in our community have become leaders in creating welcome for others. Volunteers, neighbours and local partners have played an essential role, walking alongside us and helping to nurture spaces of connection and growth.
Looking to the future
Looking ahead, the future holds exciting possibilities. With the launch of Cana Kitchen and a new mobile coffee vehicle, there will be more opportunities for skill-building, enterprise and outreach. Partnerships with groups such as Fremantle Street Doctor, St Paul’s Church, Two Dogs Laughing Café and Short Back & Sidewalks continue to strengthen our capacity. What remains unchanged is the heart of Cana WA — a community where everyone is welcome, and everyone belongs.
Join us as we celebrate this milestone and step into the next chapter together — because at Cana, community is built when everyone has a place at the table.
